PORT SUNLIGHT WHEELERS ‘B’ RUNS LIST

This run is intended for riders less fit/young/aggressive who want a Club run they can complete. The suggested runs below will, as-far-as is reasonable, be based on the ‘A’ run thus keeping as much of a single identity for the Club and a guide to riders of what they can manage.

Mike Wright will be leader of the ‘B’ runs, unless something takes priority when, he hopes, that someone will take his place and lead the ‘B’ run and follow his practice. Mike will indicate, when ‘A’ and ‘B’ runs are together, it is appropriate for the ‘B’ run to let the ‘A’ riders go.

Runs to leave the Mills no later than 10.15 a.m. All ‘regulations’ applying to ‘A’ runs apply to ‘B’ runs.

Sunday 8th.November Ruthin Café.
Mancot, Altami, Rhydymyn, Cilcain. Return Old Nanty Garth, Llandegla, Dobs Hill.

This is a ‘good’ test of what can be done! An early climb; Mancot, might split the group? It shouldn’t so early in the ride.

Sunday 15th.November Press Heath Café.
Huxley, Beeston, Wrenbury cum Frith, Whitchurch. Return: Tilstock, Higher Wick, Malpas, Tilston, Farndon.

Mike Wright will be attending his brother’s 60th. birthday. Will someone take on leadership of ‘B’ run please? It shouldn’t be difficult so long as the ‘A’ run leader exercises a little gentle control of some of his/her ‘troops’.

Sunday 22nd. November Whistle Stop Café Ruddland.
Halkyns, Tremeirchion, Cwm. Return – Rhualt, Bodfari, London Bridge, New Brighton.

This run will test the idea of doing ‘A’ and ‘B’ runs as-far-as possible together. It is not wise for people to stand around waiting for others especially if the weather is cold or wet. It may be that it will be a matter of meeting up at ‘Whistle Stop’, having started out together and the same on the return, or ‘B’ run starting out from the Mills and starting the return from ‘Whistle Stop’ earlier than the ‘A’ run?

Sunday 29th. November.
Llangollen. Hawardon, Llandegla. Return – Panorama, Ruabon, Holt, Farndon.

Again it may be better if the ‘B’ run starts from the Mills and from Llangollen earlier than the ‘A’ run. Earlier would be about 15 minutes.

Sunday 6th. December Audlum.
Capenhurst, Waverton, Beeston, Banbury, Audlum. Return – Wrenbury, Cholmondley, Harthill, Tattenhall.

This one we should all be able to do together. It’s the easy side of Harthill and unless some ‘A’ run riders are preparing for training runs after Christmas there should be no problems.

Sunday 13th. Candle Factory Christmas Lunch.
Gone are the days of racing back to the Mills after such lunches and the Ale Run.

Sunday 20th. Clatterbridge Christmas ‘10’. Followed by the Ale Run.
Can ‘B’ run riders do it in teams?

Riders, ‘A’ or ‘B’ who wish to turn back early should either tell Roy Sumner or Mike Wright or whoever is taking the runs either at the start or, if they decide during the ride, that they are tuning short and that they are OK.

Is the 'B' Ale Run for those who can only manage shandy?

I don't see why not. It's very modern to restrict one's intake of alcohol but one sometimes feels out of it as a result.

Is there any chance of a 'C' run?

This consists of:
1. Missing the start at the Mills by ten minutes.
2. Sitting down to three cups of tea and reading old cycling magazines.
3. Beans, toast, egg, cheese with more tea.
4. Pit stop at toilet.
5. Talking of what I'm going to achieve next season.
6. More tea - and finally,
7. Ride home at slower pace on arrival.

I have done this for the past two weeks and will take the run if there are any takers? Mudguards don't need to be fitted as there is such a gap between riders that no one is affected by spray.

Put me down for the 'C' run - it sounds ideal as I've been doing the 'D' run for quite a while now which consists of staying in bed till 11am - ish and thinking about a ride but not actually doing one ................

I had actually been thinking of turning up this sunday terry even if i only last afew miles it will be a start on the long road to fitness AGAIN ! I've lost all motivation lately - feeling depressed etc... maybe some encouragement from people would help - i hope to be at the mills on sunday anyway...............

Sounds Good Dave, it's a good time of year to start getting back into it, and if these "B" runs develop more will be beneficial to the club, there are a few new members who are encouraged by this, and maybe some of your experience will help, despite your lack of fitness at min, Pol and Hendo have been getting out and staying the course, it only needs a few runs to gain a bit of confidence and also then the fitness level picks up. I think SteveTyler and Pete Stanley are out this week and possibly help out on the B run. see you Sunday Dave. T J

sunday's run to Prees Heath seemed to work to plan, there was no real A and B run to start from the mills, but there were a couple of new members who decided to see how far they could comfortably get,16 of us in total set off, with Roy and wilko statring off steady as suggested, everyone seemed to be able to stay together, the main problem was inexperience at junctions etc where the group seemed to split which made it more difficult for the weaker riders to getback on, but we rode steady until they did. by the time we got to Beeston area 2 new members Tony AKA Mr. D'arcy and Chris decided to head to the ice cream farm, aided by Sniper and Hendo, craig met them there and chaperoned them back to H.Q.well done lads. all in all I think the mixed run seemed to work this week. The rest of us pressed on to Prees Heath, steady pace, re fuelled at The Raven, pushed Sian halfway home, picked up 4 punctures between us and arrived at the mills at brushing up time 4.55, where Anne and Keith kindly let us in for a brew. Where I made the biggest Gaff of the day, but you will have to ask Leanne about the comment to her re Vegetarianism and me telling her to" get some pork sausage inside her " oooer mrs. roll on next Sunday and Rhuddlan. P.s. well done Mr. D'arcy, sterling effort for an old soak, see you next week. T.J.

Second that, didn't want to leave them on roads that they didn't know, bit the bullet and took them back via cheshire HQ, bruera, reverse saigton 10 route, towpath, sealand then in, few tips and hints and some strong riding on the way home, marked improvement and confidence sky high, big chris found out why never ending lane is called that, think it was just short of 60 miles back to the mills, lots of lessons learned and i think 2 more new sunlighters keen as mustard!! Well done!!
